FORMER PNG Kumul winger Arnold Krewanty has been given the task to revive rugby league in Vanimo, West Sepik.
Deputy Prime Minister and Vanimo-Green MP Belden Namah said the former Kumul flyer, from Lido would lead a rejuvenated rugby league team comprising Kumul coach Adrian Lam to revive the league.
Namah was speaking during the opening of the 2011 PNG boxing championships in Vanimo on Saturday when committing K200,000 for the revival of rugby league competition in the province.
He said the major job for Krewanty and Lam was to get the league off the ground after it was shelved almost a decade ago.
Namah also committed a further K100,000 to soccer and another K1 million to erect a fence around the main sporting field in Vanimo.
He said West Sepik was renowned for producing some of the best sporting personalities in the past like the late Andrew Waho who used to play for the University Soccer Club in his heyday.
