Ex-MP’s son implicated

POLICE believe a bus used in the recent K6.3 million heist in Port Moresby belonged to a former politician and was used by his son.

Police detectives are trying to track down the son who allegedly used the vehicle during the heist a fortnight ago.

Police believe that the former MP’s son used the vehicle to transport the loot from downtown Port Moresby.

National Capital District-Central divisional commander Jim Andrews said the 15-seater bus was recovered this week and taken to the Boroko police station.

“The son of the former politician had used his father’s vehicle during the heist and has since fled after police recouped the vehicle,” he said.

“The father, upon learning that his vehicle was impounded, went to Boroko police station and wanted to have his vehicle back. But police told him to return with his son for questioning.

“The father probably did not know that his vehicle had been used by his son to assist the other suspects during the heist. Some officers of the security company G4S were implicated.”

Andrews has advised the son to surrender to police for questioning.

So far six people have been arrested in relation to the robbery.
