Ex-MP misled ABG on mining
The National, Friday February 26th, 2016
I AM not surprised that former Mining Minister Sam Akoitai has lost his memory.
Or he did not know what he pushed in the Mineral Resources Authority Act 2005 on 9 November 2005 without debate.
MRA was created for Panguna mine contrary to the news “MRA not for Panguna:Akoitai” (The National, Feb 25, page 11).
He with another minister had signed a letter of engagement of a foreign geologist on a K4 million deal to prepare way for reopening the Panguna mine.
Fortunately, a third minister did not sign the letter of engagement.
This same geologist used Akoitai to create MRA.
If Akoitai checks the MRA Act 2005 he will see that MRA is for Panguna mine as it is for other mines.
The ABG mining law was passed to keep MRA out of Bougainville. Leaders of ABG know of Akoitai’s lies. MRA created confusion at JSB on mining powers . It was not MRA business but it attended JSB and lied about ABGs mining powers.
ABG knew the truth in 2008 and since then it created mining department and pushed to enact its own mining law.
Akoitai will not win with lies. He is known on as a divisive leader.
