Exclusion of schools in budget angers Wenge

TOURISM Promotion Authority chairman and Nawaeb MP Kennedy Wenge is not happy that two high schools in his district were not included in this year’s Morobe budget.
Wenge said Nawaed Lutheran High School and the new Boana Lutheran High were not captured in the provincial budget for this year.
“All other high and secondary schools in the province were captured, but not these two major institutions in the district,” he said. “That is something to be questioned.
“There is no budget for these two school in the district and I am not happy.”
According to Wenge, Morobe government currently owed K1.2 million to Nawaeb Lutheran High School “and I do not know when this amount of money will be paid into the school”.
He said the schools needed money to operate and when the province had included all its high and secondary schools in its budget, there is no reason why the two established schools were omitted in the budget.
Meanwhile, Nawaeb still does not have a permanent education manager.
District chief executive James Neapukali said the former manager was transferred to provincial headquarters.
“I took up most of the tasks that the education manager supposed to do at the moment in the district,” he said.
Neapukali said he had consulted human resource division in the province but they had to wait until the position was gazetted for people to apply.
