TELIKOM PNG chief executive Xavier Victor agrees that the 5G network is part of their future.
Victor said during the PNG SME StartUp Convention in Port Moresby this week: “For now, it is a bit too early, for example, for Telikom and the KTC group of companies.
“We have invested quite a lot, and we are probably late comers when it comes to roll out of technology in this country and the mobile network in particular.”
He said for Papua New Guinea’s case, 5G was too early to be implemented when 4G and 3G services were already being used.
“There will be some time before we have to recover investment before we can venture into 5G, but it is here to stay, artificial intelligence is around in the industry, but we are going to be forced by the market to review some of our services and networks,” he said.
“That is something that is ahead of us.
“We are looking at how best we can manage the transition once when the opportunity comes to transition.
“We still have a great a 4G service that is operated by bmobile, lets us use it, we have got 300 base stations across the country covering all provinces,” he said.
“I think 5G is still new, go out and make good use of it, and then we can start talking about 5G in the next two years or so.”
