AN Asian business executive put up a fight with armed robbers, who pounced on him in front of the ANZ bank in Lae’s, Top Town, to grab his bag with an undisclosed amount of money last Thursday.
More than five suspects were in a vehicle monitoring the man while three others were waiting near the bank’s entrance when he arrived.
Lae Met Supt Anthony Wagambie Jr said when the man arrived at the bank, the suspects pounced on him and tried to pull the bag.
He said the man put up a fight that attracted security guards to his aid and the three suspects, sensing defeat, ran to the waiting vehicle.
However, one of the suspects who had fallen over during the struggle was late to board the getaway vehicle and was left behind.
The guards chased him on foot as he fired one round from his homemade gun.
“It was unfortunate for him (suspect) that it was the only bullet he had in the homemade.
“The guards, with help from the public, apprehended him.”
