Executive calls for improvement

EAST New Britain cannot continue with issues such as lack of power or power cuts, poor water supply, corruption and poor roads and service delivery almost crippling it, according to ENB Chamber of Commerce and Industry president David Stein.
The situation prompted Stein to call a press conference at Takubar in Kokopo last week.
The issues, Stein said, seriously needed to be addressed and solutions found with the help of government and public servants.
They needed to listen to the private sector and be prepared to start making changes, Stein said.
Stein said the ongoing issues are faced by the people but they choose to turn a blind eye to the government.
“There are many issues that business houses, small businesses and the public in ENB are facing on a daily basis such as power, water, roads, law and order, corrupt deals, government debts and appalling lack of service delivery to name a few,” Stein said.
“As the president of the ENB Chamber of Commerce, I have made great attempts to extend the membership of the chamber and make sure it represented not just the business houses but all of the public, business entities, people selling food at the market and business employers.
“We are at crisis point and I will be declaring a state of emergency on behalf of all of us affected,” Stein said.
He said there was a need to make some changes in the province as they could not keep going at the rate it was going at the moment.
