Expansion plans for Kavieng airport soon

THE National Airports Corporation,under the Civil AviationDevelopment Investment Programme(CADIP) – tranche 3 hasinvited bidders for the Aircraft Pavement Strengthening, Runway Extension, New Terminal Building and associated works project at Kavieng Airport.
NAC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Richard Yopo said Papua New Guinea had received a loan from the Asian Development Bank to implement this project.
This programme is aimed towards improving the International Civil Aviation Organisation andCivil Aviation Safety Authority PNG safety and security compliance shortfalls through improved airports, airwaysinfrastructure, facilities,services and capacity buildingand institutional strengthening for the aviation entities.
He said  part of this loan would  be used for the Aircraft PavementStrengthening, Runway Extension,New Terminal Building and associated works project at KaviengAirport.
The deadline for the submission of bids is June 1, 2018, 1pm local time.
“This contract will be jointly financed by the PNG Government and the eligibility rules and procedures of ADB will govern the bidding,”he said.
He also made special mention of the Government for its vision and foresight in improving the aviation institutions and infrastructure through CADIP.
He was thankful for the Governments continued support towards CADIP by honouring its counterpart funding commitments, even through trying times.
Yopo highlighted that in 2017,CADIP received 80 per cent of its allocated funding and 2018 appropriations are being remitted tothe programme for project implementation
including the Kavieng airport upgrading programme.
