POLICE in Wabag have arrested a volunteer missionary from the Lutheran church Missouri synod based in the United States.
The missionary had been charged with spreading a false report and released on K200 police bail, provincial police commander Martin Lakari confirmed this week.
Harry Steffens was arrested and charged after Lutheran Gutnius church head bishop David Piso filed a complaint with Wabag police.
Piso claimed Steffens took sides with a faction not recognised by the church council and synod and spread misleading and false statements against him.
Piso said the church council or synod had not invited him to come into the country.
He said the church had protocols to follow when inviting an overseas missionary to work with the church.
He could not allow a volunteer missionary, who could not follow the church’s constitution and showed disrespect
to him, to go unchallenged.
Steffens said Piso got him arrested for allegedly making incorrect statements about his administration.
