Expats under new code

THREE expatriates from Australia yesterday signed a code of conduct for non-citizen technical advisers attached to government departments.
Department of Personnel Management Secretary John Kali told a press conference yesterday that the government recently announced some changes to the way advisers were engaged in the public service.
He said the engagement of advisers was going to be within the laws of the country and all advisers would be required to sign on performance commitments.
“After signing the code of conduct all advisers are expected to work and be accountable to the heads of departments where they are engaged and where they are expected to deliver consistently, with the key result areas signed on by the departmental heads and the portfolio ministers of those agencies,” Kali said.
“The Minister for Public Service has agreed for the rollout of this code of conduct.
“The three of them have agreed to execute this code of conduct.
“In this way, we are encouraging all the other departmental heads to make sure that all the advisers working in their respective departments and the provincial administrations also sign the code of conduct with their respective advisers.
“It also gets them to do their work with care and diligence and also make proper use of status and authority that they carry with their responsibility.”
