HEAVY rains are expected to continue over the next few weeks, the National Weather Service (NWS) has forecasted.
The first storm for the year rocked the nation’s capital last week and brought with it a cool relief to what had been a hot dry spell during Christmas.
NWS assistant director Jimmy Gomogo said more heavy rains were expected.
“A reminder to the public that we are well into wet season now and the radar shows high possibilities of more downpours throughout the upcoming weeks,” he said.
“This year’s wet season will peak towards the end of January into the beginning of February. The worst of the storms and possibly emerging tropical cyclones will surface here if at any time.”
He added that daily rainfall could be expected with fairly strong winds of up to 18 km an hour.
Gomogo said the wet season should end in the beginning of May followed by a long dry season.
