FORMER SP Hunter and Rabaul Guria Muka Kalu is confident of a good start in the upcoming Digicel Cup season with his new club Central Dabaris.
The 24-year-old, from Chimbu, said discipline would be key to the Dabaris’ campaign with Kalu expected to play alongside former Hunters teammates Nick Hasu and Adam Korave.
“The game is based on discipline on and off the field,” Kalu told The National.
“When I was with the Hunters, coach Michael (Marum) made sure he had that instilled in us.
“He’s a very strict person and discipline was always a priority for him.
“It doesn’t matter how experienced or skillful you are, I think we just need discipline in camp.
“When we all become disciplined, I’m sure we will be a strong side this season.
“I’m confident that we can make the finals this year, but that will come back to things like our discipline and commitment towards the game.”
Gairo Pepena welcomed Kalu’s inclusion with the Dabaris head coach hopeful of a better season in the country’s premier rugby league competition.
“We have Muka, Adam and Nick this year and they’ve got a wealth of experience which will do a lot of good for the team,” he said.
“The results will speak for themselves.
“I’m confident about my young players who have blended well with the trio.
“I’m really grateful that the governor is backing us and we have a good executive team.”
