PAPUA New Guinea should be diverting money from LNG exports into reviving the  rundown road infrastructure of the past, according to the country’s leading didiman and agriculture expert.

Dr Michael Bourke, who has spent many years working with rural farmers in the country, said: “If money is put into infrastructure, roads, bridges, agriculture research and agriculture outreach that can make a difference.

“If money is spent effectively, restoring infrastructure to where it was, you can build roads in obscure places but if you can restore roads, if you can go back to the ’70s and ’80s when there was a good road network.”
