Expert warns firms about cyber security

SOME companies in Papua New Guinea still think that addressing cyber security threats is the sole responsibility of the Government, says an expert.
Cybernetic Global Intelligence chief executive officer Ravin Prasad told The National last Friday at the Digital Economy Forum in Port Moresby that companies must start discussing cyber security in their boardrooms to prepare for the digital era. The company is partnering with Datec, one of the gold sponsors of the forum, to provide corporate cyber security training in Papua New Guinea.
He was with Datec’s acting chief executive officer Gokul Naidu and acting chief operating officer Annuncia Kokiai.
“Think about cyber security, talk about it, put that in your agenda for your board meetings,” he said.
“You must know where your company infrastructure is, where does it lie, who has access to it, where are the passwords, how often do you change your passwords.
“Things like those organisation leaders have to start thinking about it.”
Prasad said one of the cyber security threats was when people did not know where their infrastructure lay, where their data was stored and who had access to it.
“Some companies have no understanding of who their third party is,” he said.
“They have no legal or policy documentation in place with their provider that actually says to their provider what their expectations is from a third party.”
Prasad said staff training on cyber security was the key.
Kokiai said Datec’s partnership with Cybernetics Global Intelligence was important in cyber security literacy.

  • Very true, everyone must now know about security threats on network.
Business, must take heed. Mobile phone users must be aware of this, and do not fall prey on hackers, scammers, stealing your information. All this is very real.!
