EXXONMobil PNG yesterday prepared food supplies in Port Moresby to be distributed to the earthquake affected areas in Southern Highlands.
“We are focusing on helping the communities at the moment and also to get our operations up and running,” said managing director Andrew Barry.
Delivery of food, water supplies, tarpaulins for shelter, medical and hygiene kits continue.
The relief supplies have reached Kutubu in Southern Highlands, Hulia, Tari, Hayapuga and Komo in Hela and Huiya in Western.
Barry said the food relief supplies would be delivered to Moro today and distributed to the identified areas which needed relief assistance the most.
He said several of the health centres in communities near the Hides Gas Conditioning Plant had been damaged or displaced by the earthquake.
ExxonMobil is also helping with the assessments and providing logistics support to health workers as relief agencies work to recover health services in the affected communities.
The company will also be working with the government to accelerate infrastructure funding.
ExxonMobil with the ANU Enterprise plan to support the re-establishment of food gardens in a number of project area communities through their existing community livelihoods improvement programme.
Barry said there was no serious problem with the pipes and the facility stood up to the earthquake well.
The facility was shut down safely with some minor damage to be repaired, he said.
