AIRLINES Papua New Guinea says its charter arrangement with ExxonMobil PNG Limited will not be renewed after it expires at the end of this month.

The company said in a statement: “As the LNG (liquefied natural gas) project has moved into its production phase, ExxonMobil Papua New Guinea’s charter service requirements have reduced significantly and the airline will redeploy capacity onto scheduled passenger services.

“Over the past five years, the airline has carried more than 163,000 passengers and 1,000,000kg of freight for EMPNG and has been an integral part of the LNG Project coming into production.

“All of this has been done in compliance with ExxMPNG’s very stringent requirements, which in turn have enabled the airline and its staff to develop systems and standards that are comparable with those of the best charter operators worldwide.”

Airlines Papua New Guinea thanked ExxonMobil for its business through the very busy and challenging construction and commissioning phases of the multi- billion kina LNG project.

ExxonMobil Papua New Guinea on Tuesday confirmed that it recently re-tendered its Papua New Guinea airline charter services.

The firm said the services was  for the transportation of staff and freight between Port Moresby and its Komo airstrip.
