EXXONMOBIL says the company has been implementing protective measures consistent with recommendations from authorities to sustain continued, safe operations
A spokesperson told The National on Friday that they were closely monitoring guidance from the PNG Government, World Health Organisation (WHO) and US Center for Disease Control (CDC) as they worked to protect against the spread of Covid-19 by applying appropriate prevention, detection and response measures.
“As the operator of the PNG LNG Project, ExxonMobil has been implementing protective measures consistent with recommendations from these authorities to sustain continued safe operations,” the company said in a statement.
“In addition, as a global oil and gas company with operating facilities around the world, we also rely upon our well-established processes to manage impacts related to infectious disease.
“To date, there have been no confirmed cases within our PNG LNG workforce. Our focus right now is on ensuring the ongoing safety and health of our workforce and the communities in which we operate while maintaining the continuity of our business to meet PNG’s and the world’s energy needs.”
The company said operations were going on normally and preventative measures were being implemented.
