ExxonMobil PNG Limited has committed K50,000 to the Kutubu Kundu and Digaso festival.
Public and Government Affairs deputy manager Nora Scheller said the company, the operator of the PNG LNG project, was happy to support a cause that aimed to promote the traditional culture and environment of the country and improve the lives of people affected by the earthquake last February.
Scheller said ExxonMobil PNG has been providing relief assistance to the people in its area of operation. Festival committee chairman James Irimaru welcomed ExxonMobil PNG’s sponsorship for the eighth year. The funding will pay for costs such as bringing sing-sing groups from Southern Highlands, Gulf and Hela to the festival.
Lead event organiser Saina Jeffery Philyara said the event aimed to mobilise the people to promote the preservation of their rich biodiversity, cultural heritage, and promote sustainable tourism development in the Kutubu region.
“I acknowledge all our corporate sponsors and partners for their continued support in realising the importance of community mobilisation and development in terms of community-based ecotourism because this initiative is a path to sustainable community development,” she said
