PNG LNG Project operator ExxonMobil PNG (EMPNG) was recognised with the Security, Safety, Health and Environment Performance and Perseverance Award for 2018.
The honour was awarded annually by ExxonMobil’s Global Upstream Operations to the best performing organisation and affiliates.
EMPNG’s safety, health and environment manager Winnie Schubert said the achievement reflected a strong safety culture.
“It’s amazing how ExxonMobil PNG drives safety throughout its operations,” she said.
“This award is a resounding testament of our staff working together.”
EMPNG’s pipeline operations supervisor in Moro, Southern Highlands Noah Pingin said the idea that staff were one “upstream family” resonated with all team members.
“People just know that caring for each other is the right thing to do and that is evident through our observation and interaction programme participation,” he said.
EMPNG LNG plant surveillance engineer Christine Sahuburua said the achievement and high safety standard needed to be maintained.
“The safety culture is built on communication and ensuring that we do all our work in a safe manner,” she said.
EMPNG said it recognised that to maintain safety standards, regular reminders to all employees and contractors was needed.
It said throughout the year, safety leadership workshops were conducted for EMPNG and its third party contractor’s to highlight safety processes across its operations and to allow the participants to share successful practices; a key factor was sharing those learnings by storytelling to engage the audience at a personal level.
EMPNG will stage this year’s contractor safety day today in Port Moresby which would attract more than 100 participants from 40 companies.
