THE 2012 Besta FA Cup soccer challenge will see an increase in participation from provisional and affiliated member associations throughout the four regions in the country.
The Oct 18-28 soccer event was launched last Friday in Lae, witnessed by OFC general secretary Tai Nicholas, International Food Corporation heads, PNGFA executives and corporate soccer supporters.
PNGFA president David Chung hinted that the Besta FA Cup will be open to all member associations including provisional members to provide wider participation for soccer players.
In line with Besta Cup’s motto, “Raising tomorrow’s champions” Chung thanked IFC for supporting football in the country and the development of youths.
The Besta FA Cup season received a sponsorship of K150,000 from IFC.
PNGFA is focusing on lifting the standard of the FA Cup to the same standard as the National Soccer League, however, the competition was for member associations to have a stage to expose their talents.
IFC sales manager Roslan Wahed thanked National Rice Distributors, Consort Express Lines Ltd, Tim Kumba Holdings, Lams Trading, Amalpac Ltd, Panamex, Coca-Cola, SVS and Gute Security Services for their support.
Teams from all regions will play qualifiers from Oct 18- 21 and Oct 26-28 to enter the semi-finals. Both semi-finals and the final will be in Lae with the semis scheduled for Nov 1 followed by the final on Nov 3.
