EAST New Britain Today group on social media site, Facebook, has been put on notice to be served a court order if it continues to make defamatory statements.
The group, whose members are mostly residents in East New Britain, was warned yesterday by Governor Ereman ToBaining.
He said the group had continuously spread “lies, rumours and gossip” and tarnished the reputation and good work of  the provincial government.
The governor said the group’s latest posting on Facebook accused him of spending too much time in
Port Moresby visiting night clubs.
He said his travel to Port Moresby was to serve his people’s interest and to attend parliament sittings.
ToBaining labelled the group’s views as a “cheap swipe” at him based on unreliable sources.
He said the “lame attack” was designed to spoil names of various organisations, prominent people and groups in the province.
ToBaining said he would continue to serve his people’s interests.
He also urged other national MPs to take measures to
stop such malicious comments by groups and individuals
on social media sites like Facebook.
The East New Britain Today group is expected to respond to ToBaining’s comments later this week.
