Facilities up to standard: PHA

THE new facilities at the Angau Memorial Hospital in Lae are compliant with the Department of Health standards, says provincial health authority chairman David Wissink.
Wissink said the facilities also complied with the Australian health facilities guidelines and the building codes of Australia which was endorsed by the Morobe building board.
He was responding to comments by Lae mayor James Khay that the new facilities did not comply with modern standards.
The design of the buildings were approved by the department in 2018.
Wissink said the hospital project was funded by the Australian government for K500 million.
Last month, Health Minister Jelta Wong, Lands and Physical Planning Minister John Rosso and Australian High Commissioner Bruce Davis visited the project.
Wissink said the design, construction, tenders, contractor appointments had nothing to do with the Morobe health authority nor the chief executive officer Grant Muddle.
“The project design and implementation (went) through a consultative process involving stakeholders and managed by a project development office appointed by Australian department of foreign affairs and trade,” he said.
