An election candidate in East Sepik has been arrested for allegedly kidnaping two men after accusing them of using sorcery to make him fail in the elections, division commander assistant commissioner Donald Yamasombi said yesterday.
“The candidate has been arrested and detained at the Wewak Police Station for     kidnapping and depriving them of freedom,” he said.
In a separate incident, Yamasombi said that four men went to the boys’ dormitory at Brandi Secondary School in East Sepik last Thursday afternoon and tried to rob the students.
“They were unsuccessful and set fire to the dormitory. The fire spread to the school’s administration block. Both buildings were razed to the ground. Police are now investigating.”
Meanwhile, police in Daru were  investigating the burning down of the new Middle Fly River district administration building in Western.
Yamasombi said the building in Balimo was destroyed.
“The fire spread to the old administration building.”
