Fairfax ends pre-season comp

THE Fairfax Volleyball Association completed its pre-season last Saturday at the Papua New Guinea Education Institute sports ground, Waigani, Port Moresby.
In the final, Raukele Maroons beat Raukele Gold 3-1 in the women’s division while in the men’s final Freeway Hoks 1 defeated Raukele 2 three sets to one.
The match between Hoks 1 and Raukele 2 was evenly fought with the Hohola-based Hoks side keeping their nerve to come out victors in a tight contest.
In the women’s final, Raukele proved their domination of the competition with the clubs two sides facing off in the decider.
Current national representative players in sisters Perpetua and Zoe Awadu were damaging in the blocking department for the Raukele Maroon.
Raukele Gold spikers could not penetrate the wall put up by the Maroons and in the end that was what cost them.
Maroons setter Josie Dick laid it on for her spikers Philo Ameisa and Hazel Ruga ensuring their team didn’t have the same problem. For the other clubs Telikom are set to field a powerful side in the women’s division with national representatives Alice Ito, Madia Hairai and Kemmy Manoni  as well as Mera Kila forming a great attacking combination when the season serves off.
Association vice-president Koavea Karulaka said the season would start on May 14.
