A MEDICAL practitioner says some of the medical reports submitted to the Motor Vehicle Insurance Ltd for insurance claims on road accidents in Central were fraudulent.

Dr Sonny Kibob, the officer-in-charge of the Accident and Emergency division at the Port Moresby General Hospital, revealed this during the presentation by the MVIL of suspicious claims to police for investigation.

He said most of the claims submitted from Central handed to police for investigation were “fraudulent” and police would have to conduct their own investigation to prosecute offenders. “I can see that there are group of people going around doing false or fabricated medical reports,” Kibob said.

“Some of these doctors are appointed to do medical reports. However, there are juniors, who are not supposed to do medical reports, but still went ahead.”

Kibob said most of the accidents in and around the National Capital District and Central should have been reported to the hospital.

“But they go to the other urban clinics and get their accidents reports and come to the accidents and emergency division at POMGN to have the final medical reports for processing with the MVIL.

“That’s the trend that has been going on and there seems to be a syndicate involved. I went through the files and noticed that most of the claims were not written by a medical person.

“Someone has just cut and paste and I have already summarised and put in place for police to look at.” Kibob said they had improved the data management system and such fraud practices would be identified easily.
