A LARGE rain tree on Sixth Street fell across Huon Road, blocking off access in and out of the town from the court house and Seventh Street and held up traffic last Friday.
As the access into and out of the main town area through Seventh Street, Coronation Drive from the north and up from the old Lae airport had been closed off as part of the on-going road developments, the only access was through Second, Third and Fourth streets from Huon Road.
Traffic from the market and Angau Hospital or the opposite way from the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium and Voco Point, into and out of town was from the Huon Road turn off from Markham Road at the bottom of the Small Lunaman Hill.
Vehicles going or coming straight from the court house, Eriku or Seventh Street as well as in and out of town through the three streets had to go around via Chinatown or Milford Haven Road.
The large rain tree went down early last Friday, taking with it power lines and disrupted electricity supply to the main town and the surrounding areas for several hours.
The Lae City Council workers were seen hard at work to clear the road.
