TWO families from Goilala living in Port Moresby are mourning the loss of their sons knifed in front of them on Sunday in a “revenge killing” by men from Tari, Hela.
Ludwig Holai, 15, and Gadei Bauai, 25, were with their families at Erima when they were killed by men who suspected that the two were involved in an earlier fight at 2-Mile in which a Tari man was killed.
Fathers Martin Akis and Holai Zawot said their sons were not involved in the 2-Mile fight.
Holai who arrived in the city three weeks ago was preparing to return to Zake in Tapini, Central, to attend the Rupila Primary School.
Gadei was also knifed and died instantly from his wounds.
“Our sons died because they were from Goilala,” Akis said.
“They were innocent and were never involved in the selling and distribution of marijuana.”
Zawot said: “The killing of a man from Tari (at 2-Mile) has seen me lose my 15-year-old son who only came to the city to buy his school supplies.
“He was to return to the village to continue his education.
“Ludwig was a good kid. He was always helpful to my wife and me and never did anything wrong.”
Central Governor Robert Agarobe and Goilala MP William Samb visited the families and promised to assist with repatriation of the bodies to Goilala.
Samb said he wanted a change in attitude by people living in Port Moresby.
“We don’t like being called troublemakers and we need to stop the name-calling by others,” he said.
“It is only a few that cause problems but we all get the blame.”
