FORTY-eight families in petroleum development licence areas five and six in Moran, Southern Highlands, have received roofing iron sheets and accessories to build permanent homes.

Moran LLG special purpose authority interim chairman Anthony Hamaka presented the items to the 48 families last Saturday in front of a small crowd gathered from Homa, Paua, Baguale and Beneria.

It was witnessed by Homa Paua People’s Association and Petroleum Resource Moran chairman Pape Punga.

Hamaka said the initiative to provide housing materials was the first step to experiencing real development for people living in the Moran area since oil was  discovered in 1992.

He told the Moran PDL5 and PDL6 people to prepare wood for new homes and the authority would provide roofing iron and other necessary materials, including water tanks, for permanent homes.

“Schools, particularly from elementary to primary levels, are some of our infrastructure development priorities. We will hold discussions with the government and our oil and gas developers to be active partners in these initiatives,” Hamaka said.
