Families received food, necessities after houses burnt down

MADANG Governor Peter Yama says displaced families from the Wagol settlement received food and necessities worth about K13,000 on Sunday.
Yama, who met the 100-plus families whose houses were burnt down following the death of a policeman in Madang on Friday, said he was concerned about their welfare and used his money to assist them.
He said the settlers affected were from Biwat (Angoram), Bogia (Madang), Ramu (Madang) and majority were from Kambaramba (Angoram).
Yama, who was on his way to the province from Port Moresby, said the people were building makeshifts using canvas in the same area where they lost their homes in the fire.
Councillor for Ward 7 in the Madang Urban LLG Ishmael Yama said the settlers were assisted with 15 bales of clothes, food, canvas, cooking and eating utensils and drinking water with help from the governor and Kalibobo Clothing.
