RELATIVES of a deceased teacher at the National Training Institute (NTI) beside the Wampar Council Station, at Huon Gulf, Morobe, are demanding K835,000 in compensation from the director of the college.
The petition, in relation to the death of mathematics and business teacher Jayson Roa, was presented to director Kila Gabbie on Friday.
Some aggrieved relatives vented their frustration by burning down principal Fokopa Gilbert’s house between 2am and 3am last Thursday
Sources said 106 students were taking refuge in the nearby Gabsongkec villages and not attending classes for almost two weeks for fear of being attacked.
The students were from Mamose (25), Southern (22), New Guinea Islands (33) and Highlands (26).
They were selected to attend the NTI at Wampar through the Independent Fellowship Scheme (IFS) programme sanctioned by the Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations.
In a two-page letter by headboy Japeth Pana and headgirl Maria Temokang and signed by the students, they assured the Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations, and IFS Board of Trustees to take it as a matter of urgency.
Three suspects have been apprehended and detained in relation to the teacher’s death.
