Family launch fish project
The National, Thursday June 5th, 2014
A FAMILY group in the Lungalunga ward of Livuan Reimber local level government in the Gazelle district, has successfully launched their fishing project to encourage economic growth within the family and in the area.
The Ennel Fishing project includes members of a family network related to Nancy Lasin, a former teacher who has served as a secondary and high school teacher for many years.
Speaking at the launch, chairman of Ennel Fishing Project Lasin Rennie said the group was born out of interest.
“It was a result of the family’s interest and commitment in fishing to feed the whole family,” he said.
Lasin, who is a former senior high and secondary school teacher, said the group was formed to improve their fishing skills and encourage the family members to participate in a small-medium economic activity that could add a little more to their earnings to sustain them on a daily basis.
He said the group made a submission to the National Fisheries Authority in 2012 and was the only group from Lungalunga out of five others from the same area that was approved funding.
However, he said cheques were only cleared very recently to selected projects.
“We are happy to work with people in the community to promote economic growth,” he said.
The East New Britain chairman for Primary Industries Fisheries and Food Security John Sambie assured the people of Baining and North Coast areas that he would ensure they did not miss out on benefits from major economic activities in the province and in the country.
Sambie called on them to be creative in driving economic growth in the community as the vision of the provincial government and its administration has its focus on empowering the people to drive the local economy.
Local businessman Nakikus Konga applauded the Ennel Fishing project and called on the people living in Lungalunga ward to help and support the project.
Konga assured the members of the new fishing project that he would support the project.
