A FAMILY from Labu-Butu village in the Wampar local level government in Huon Gulf district suffered injuries when a car ran into them on Sunday afternoon.

Apisah Gelinde, 55, was walking out of the Angau Memorial Hospital morgue gate with wife Nupuna, two daughters, Desley Kwila and three other women when the vehicle swerved into them.

Gelinde said he and his wife were at the hospital to get their daughter Jolin treated for asthma.

Kwila and her two sisters and a woman from the village had brought a pregnant mother to the labour ward. They all met outside the hospital after his daughter’s treatment to return home.

“The car came from behind us and my wife and others managed to jump to safety while me, my daughter Jolin and Kwila were hit by the car as it was too late for us to jump,” he said.

“We were thrown off to the side as it skidded towards the hospital fence and stopped where my daughter fell.”

He said Jolin was treated for injuries to her arms and a bruised head. Kwila had a broken arm and a cut on her leg.

He said the driver of the vehicle who sustained bruises fled from the hospital yesterday morning after receiving treatment overnight.

Gelinde said he lost his Lae Port Services ID card, driver’s licence, bank card and bag after the accident.

He is appealing to anyone who may have them to return the personal belongings to him.
