THE family of a man who was allegedly shot by police in Popondetta and died at the Port Moresby General Hospital wants justice.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Ronnie Robinson told The National that once they put their brother to rest, they will pursue the case.
“There are witnesses who have agreed to testify and we will formally report the matter to the police,” he said.
“We have filed a complaint at the police headquarters and once we lay our brother to rest, we will put a report to police.”
The man (named) was caught in the fight that erupted among youths early this year and was allegedly shot by police and airlifted to Port Moresby where he died sometimes later.
Robinson said a family member was asked to report the incident to Popondetta police as they were in Port Moresby with the victim.
It is not known whether there was a report registered with the police because there is no confirmation.
Northern commander Chief Insp Ewai Segi confirmed that there was no formal complaint of the incident.
Segi, however, said that he was informed of the complaint being made to the internal investigations unit at the police headquarters in Port Moresby.
He confirmed that there was initial dialogue with the victim’s family after a petition was handed to police and the provincial administration at the time of the incident.
