SEVEN long-serving Correctional Officers who have been retrenched were farewelled by their comrades with a parade last Tuesday at Baisu jail outside Mt Hagen, Western Highlands.
Outgoing station-in-charge Major Joseph Teine, Major Rabuni Egainut, Sgt William Kandau, Cpl Mato Gulele, Cpl Petrus Kuben, L/Cpl Joseph Kewa and L/Cpl Kapi Wamia were retrenched early this year.
Each of the officers had served for more than 30 years and spent
most of those years working in Baisu.
It was an emotional moment when the seven  removed their berets as  a sign of leaving the CS.
Serving warders and their families presented the officers and their families with gifts.
Baisu jail commanding officer Chief Supt Simon Sobaim thanked and acknowledged the retrenched officers on behalf of the commissioner for their service.
He said they were all champions and leaders and encouraged them to maintain the same discipline and leadership in their communities.
On behalf of the retrenched officers, Teine said they swore an oath to serve the department and he encouraged serving officers to maintain discipline and cooperate with each other.
He thanked people from the surrounding communities for their support and cooperation in building the Baisu Primary School and urged the teachers and officers to work towards achieving what was planned for the school.
Community representative and Baisu Primary headmaster Gabriel Niggints thanked the officers and acknowledged their input to the school.
He highlighted the work and efforts put in by former school board chairman Joseph Teine, saying the contributions of the retrenched officers would be long remembered.
The ceremony was witnessed by Mt Hagen police officers, members of the surrounding committees, CS officers and their families and their tribes men who came to witness the farewell parade.
