FARMERS in Jimi, Jiwaka, plan to plant more than one million cocoa trees to boost cash flow and support the local and national economy, says MP Wake Goi.
Goi, also the Minister for Community Development Youth and Religion, said he would be focusing more on cocoa than other cash crops.
Goi said this would lead to economic prosperity in Jimi.
He said people in Upper and Middle Jimi would soon take up cocoa farming.
“I know people keep planting cocoa and Jimi will become well-known for growing cocoa,” he said.
“We will make sure to plant a million cocoa trees which will boost the cash flow and improve the livelihood of the people.
“Farming is a sleeping giant that can generate revenue and create wealth for the people who are still residing in the most remote parts of the country.”
Goi described Jimi as one of the most remote areas in the country accessible by road and air.
