FIVE groups of cocoa farmers will be involved in the MiBank programme launched in Kokopo on Tuesday.
The Agriculture Value Chain Product programme was launched following an agreement reached between bank and the PNG Cocoa Board.
The five farmer groups are Nganalaka, Bitavavar, Bitapabeke and Palnapepe plus the Raluan cooperative society. Blaise Vovore, a cocoa farmer from Nganalaka, received a cheque for K1,000 as his loan from the bank.
The PNG Cocoa Board will assist the groups through its cocoa nursery project.
Brad Jackson of the PNG Agriculture Company who has been closely assisting and supporting the farmers told them agriculture had been practised in PNG for thousands of years and was “here to stay”.
