POULTRY farmers in Wabag are mourning the death of Nicholas Mangin, the deputy director of the Enga commerce division.
It is alleged that he was murdered in Port Moresby by a member of his clan’s enemy tribe
Mangin played a vital role in helping 3,400 members of the Wabag District Farmers Association to open their accounts with the Bank of South Pacific branch in Wabag. The farmers will deposit the revenue from the sale of their chicken in the accounts when the new chicken factory opens.
Former Wabag MP Sam Abal and chicken factory project coordinator Connie Kepakan said Mangin helped the farmers a lot and his death was a big loss to the farmers and people of Wabag.
They believed that Mangin’s death was related to a past tribal fight between his clansmen and a rival tribe from the same area.
Police could not be reached for comment.
But Abal and Kepakan said Mangin could have been killed during a drink brawl at the suburb of Gerehu allegedly by a man from the same Sakarip village in Wabag district.
