FARMSET Papua New Guinea Limited will train locals in Kainantu on how to manage their farms, according to operations manager Colin Mitchell.

He said the training would cover areas such as coffee rehabilitation, pest management and chemical safety.

Mitchell said the training would highlight some issues affecting the coffee and cocoa sectors.

He said the training would also teach farmers on how they could mitigate risks involved in running their businesses.

He said the training was to improve farming and equip farmers with necessary knowledge, and to help them improve their small businesses.

“We have been carrying out this training for some time to farmers and  locals,” Mitchell said.

“The training has been carried out in Madang, Goroka and Lae.

“Now we are in Kainantu.

“Basically the training is to ensure farmers know the fundamentals and to help them in improving the businesses to be more efficient.

“We will have the National Agriculture Quarantine Inspection Authority who will also provide some training.

“The training has been able to generate interest from many farmers.

“We are expecting another big turnout in Kainantu.”

The training is expected be carried out in other centres as well.

Farmers commended Farmset for their approach and the initiative of covering cocoa and coffee sectors.
