PAPUA New Guinea Fashion and Design Week Limited (PNGFDW) in partnership with Digicel screened the Strongim Kastam Wokabout virtual show in Port Moresby’s Paradise Cinemas yesterday.
The show featured 12 local designers – eight established and four emerging – among them two male designers.
Since its inception in 2016, PNGFDW has been showcasing PNG’s culturally-inspired fashion and design through the involvement of talented fashion designers and had achieved amazing results with the PNG-Australia partnership support from 2018 to 2020.
Under the partnership, PNGFDW has trained 822 fashion designers, including 76 persons living with disabilities, and 30 models last year.
A participant from the 2019 Port Moresby Training Elaine Akua said: “I am a proud entrepreneur now, specialising in fashion design business.”
“I can confidently say that the knowledge I received from the PNGFDW training has empowered me to create a small business that generates K5,000 monthly.”
PNGFDW director Janet Sios said: “We have over the past years offered a platform to support the sustainable development and growth of the fashion and design.”
