THE father of an 11-year-old girl who he said was subjected to abuse in Port Moresby is disappointed with how police are treating the case.
The man from Western told The National that he had reported the matter to police on March 18 but they did not seem to be taking the matter seriously.
The father claimed that a man who allegedly was in possession of pornographic materials in his phone showed them to the child before undressing himself and showing her his private parts.
The father told police that it happened twice at Joyce Bay in Moresby South this month.
He reported the matter to the Badili police station on March 18, and later raised it with Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N’dranou who wrote to the Badili police station commander on March 25 to take appropriate action.
N’dranou in his letter stated that injustice might have been done by the lack of police action against the suspect.
He directed the station commander to instruct the officer in charge of the family and sexual violence unit to take appropriate action.
He wanted a report on the action taken submitted to him.
The father said: “I am very upset that the officers haven’t been serious about this matter as they said the suspect did not physically touch her.
“I believe that crime against children include physical and emotional abuse, neglect and exploitation through child pornography.
“I call for an end to sexual abuse on children and I am seeking justice for my daughter.
“I will be taking my child to a specialist treatment because of the abuse she has endured.”
