MORE than 10 men beheaded a father and son and removed their hearts before disposing their bodies in Transgogol on Saturday.
Madang police commander Supt Mazu Rubiang said the slaying was sparked by a land dispute.
Police identified the dead as Laina and his son Solomon.
Rubiang said Laina and Solomon had a heated argument with a man recently and the man was injured in a fight with Solomon.
After recovering from his injuries in hospital, the man mobilised help from a group of men from Amele who surrounded Laina and Solomon’s house at 2am.
They then took Laina and Solomon up a hill near the village where they had the father and son slayed.
“My men and I arrived at the village yesterday could not find any family members around. Villagers told us that the father and son had been killed. “It was dark, so we will conduct a search for the killers. The suspect had fled with the remains of the father and son with the men from Amele.
“Transgogol has seen many such killings and villagers and their leaders must seriously address disputes and stop the violence,” he added.
