The PNG Games begin in earnest today with 11 codes holding their opening round of competition at various locations in Port Moresby.
Basketball seems to be a one-horse race after team NCD named a side bristling with top line talent led by national representatives Joe Elavo and Wally Parapa.
NCD have shown competing provinces that they will require a super effort to upset the Games hosts.
In bodybuilding, the story is a similar one. Team NCD have picked a strong group which includes a trio of experienced campaigners in Kenny Kupa (70kg), Steven Simon (65kg) and Imbak Wiape (75kg).
Cricket also due to start today will be as expected a one-sided affair with NCD tipped to cruise home against opposition the likes of Kimbe, Central, Morobe and Milne Bay.
Darts, however, will see more even competition with team Morobe and Central in the running against favourites NCD.
In powerlifting NCD are again the odds on favourites having experience and the home court advantage on their side however teams from the Highlands provinces should compete well.
Other sports set to commence competition today are soccer, weightlifting, touch rugby, taekwondo, volleyball, softball and disabled sports.
