MADANG MP Nixon Duban is working quickly to have feeder roads in the district connected.

Duban officiated at a groundbreaking ceremony at Baiteta to fund the construction of the Baiteta-Budib Road.

The Baiteta Road turnoff from Rempi village, in North Coast, is a dangerous road at this stage and only one vehicle, owned by local businessman Florian Bahin, operates on it.

Its poor condition prompted Duban to allocate funding for its repair and upgrade.

He presented K300,000 to Equi Plant Road Construction Company to build the road.

Duban has been funding feeder roads in the district with the aim to have them all linked into a big ring road connecting the whole of Ambenob and Transgogol local level governments with Madang Urban.

Baiteta village ward councillors Bonny Sekum said the villagers were originally from inland but had migrated so they could be closer to the road.

“People have problems travelling into town because of the road condition,” Sekum said.

He said the area had resources for economic sustainability but the road condition in the area was a problem.

Sekum said more than 3000 people from Baiteta and more from the inland and ward 13 of Ambenob LLG would benefit from the new road.

“We have plenty money for Madang district roads and as long as I am your member, I will connect all roads in the district,” Duban told them.

He encouraged the villagers to engage in cocoa farming and use the road to make an income.

Duban said 500,000 cocoa seedlings would be distributed around the district to interested farmers and he encouraged the Baiteta people to show interest or form corporative societies and to get start-up funding.
