PNG Power Ltd is providing training for female electricians from various organisations.

One each from Niugini Electrical, Tabubil Engineering and Ok Tedi Mining Ltd completed their Electrical Level Two training at the PNG Power Training College in Port Moresby.

Linda Wurin from Niugini Electrical, Priscilla Murumbery from Tabubil Engineering and Sarah Karo from OTML were the only females among the 31 who refined their electrical skills during the eight-week training.

Wurin said: “I have never learnt this much about switchboard wiring and I didn’t have confidence in myself. However, coming here was a blessing because I learned more about switchboard wiring. We were given the opportunity to draw diagrams and build it from scratch. That was awesome.”

Karo said they learned many new things.

“Learning about voltage drop was a new thing and very interesting. I had a big challenge with motor controls too but I learned the tricks to it,” she said.

Murumbery who faced challenges in domestic or house wiring said the training helped learn the skills she needed.

“We give our big thank you to PNG Power for the high quality training and accommodation,” she said.
