PEOPLE living at the Gordon police barracks in Port Moresby are blaming the bad fence for the death of three people after a ute crashed in the yard on Friday.
Julius Aijau said that because the chainlink fence was low, people used the compound as a shortcut to neighbouring properties.
The three who died when the vehicle crashed into the fence were Stanley Japele, 20, Dilen Sani, 21, and Renford Kiandu, 25, who left behind his wife and two daughters.
Jonah Nawe, 19, was injured and is admitted at Port Moresby General Hospital.
Aijau said there had been more than 10 accidents on the road but last Friday’s one was the most serious.
“The National Capital District Commission and police have to do something about this,” he said. “Metsup and Police Commissioner Gari Baki must walk into the barracks and see what the situation is for the affected families.”
Resident Oga Erehe said families of police officers were at risk because criminals could easily walk into the compound.
“Policemen deal with many high-risk criminals cases and criminal elements can just walk into their homes,” he said.
