THE Conservation and Environment Protection Authoity (Cepa) will host a refrigeration and air-condition technical field challenge to mark the international day for the preservation of the ozone layer in Port Moresby tomorrow.
Managing director Gunther Joku said the event at the Don Bosco Technical Institute at Taurama was expected to feature the air-conditioning industry and technicians.
Joku said PNG was a signatory to the Montreal Protocol and Cepa was the mandated government agency responsible for ensuring PNG honoured its obligations.
“As part of implementing the Montreal Protocol in Papua New Guinea, the recognition of the International Ozone Day on is important,” he told The National yesterday. Joku said unfortunately the day, Sept 16, fell on Independence Day anniversary so the event was moved to this weekend.
“This skills challenge will involve the PNG refrigeration and air-conditioning industry teams showcasing their ozone and climate-friendly techniques and practices used in their day-to-day work and will also include the participation of the school team at Don Bosco Technical Institute,” Joku said.
“It will highlight the important role refrigeration technicians have in ozone and climate-related efforts, not just nationally but on a global scale.”
He said the winner in last year’s refrigeration technical skills challenge competition was Brian Bell Home Centre.
