Fighters impressive at Games to win medals

AN impressive show from Team PNG fighters saw the country collect two silver and one bronze in judo and taekwondo at the Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa, yesterday.
Steven Tommy brought home silver for Team PNG after he went down to Australian Damon Cavey in the gold-medal playoff in men’s 63kg.
The Keneke sisters collected medals in Judo yesterday with Kay Cee Keneke (-78kg) winning silver and her sister Marie (+78kg) collecting bronze. Fiji’s Keresi Farouk edged out Kay Cee via a submission to win gold while her sister Marie denied Samoa’s Niu Imeleta Faauma the bronze.
Serah Peraka missed out on bronze in the women’s 57kg after going down to Samoa’s Maria Annette Gay.
A strong performance from Team PNG’s heavyweight athlete Arthur Lavalou saw him defeat his Tongan opponent 28-5 in the second round yesterday.
