FIJI is establishing relations with provinces in Papua New Guinea to promote better understanding and economic exchange, its high commissioner, RomanuTikotikoca says.

Tikotikoca said they had started with an agreement signed with Gulf two months ago.

He said Fiji’s capital Suva would have an “understanding” with Lae by the end of the year.

Tikotikoca said Fiji had an active community in the country.

He said during Fiji Day celebrations last Saturday in Port Moresby Fijians were getting involved in community projects.

About 500 Fijians are living in Papua New Guinea and are mostly involved in the aviation and bank industries, AusAID and in the private sector.

“We are looking forward to the Melanesian Spearhead Group next year to showcase our culture,” Tikotikoca said.
