PEOPLE from the Philippines living and working in Madang visited children at Kananam along the North Coast on New Year’s Day.
The visitors presented each Sunday school child with a schoolbag containing a raincoat, activity notebook,
pencil with sharpener and eraser, crayons, ruler and a one-litre water container.
The Filipino expatriates were led by Vicente Rivera Jr. They were assisted by the management of RD Fishing (PNG) Ltd.
The event was attended by parents, Sunday school teachers, church and village leaders headed by ward 10 councillor Mathew Masbud.
A packed meal for the children was served during the event.
“Seeing those children with joy during this festive season is truly a pleasant experience in the hearts of the Filipino expats,” Rivera said.
“It is one way of remembering their own children and family whom the expatriates missed so much during these holidays – the season of giving, love and joy.
“This is one way of giving back the blessings to the community and kids; one way of saying thank you for the friendship and partnership.
“All the Filipino expats expressed their joy and thanks to the community, a way of celebrating the New Year – the RD Fishing way,” Emmanuel Pacifico said on behalf of his colleagues.
Parents, church leaders, teachers, SSPS sisters and the community thanked RD Fishing (PNG) and its owner Rodrigo Rivera for the support he gave to the people of Kananam.
