Film connects PNG with world on Earth Day
The National, Thursday 19th April 2012
PAPUA NEW GUINEA will join over 160 countries to view the film One Day on Earth on Earth Day at the National Museum and Art Gallery, in Port Moresby.
United Nations communications officer Lisa Smyth said yesterday the film was created to show how people went about their daily lives globally.
“We may think we are different due to race, skin colour or culture but after all we are a global community, thus we share some common issues and struggles as humans on earth,” Smyth said.
She said the idea was that after watching the film people could be able to feel a sense of belonging to the global community.
She said the footage for the film was taken all over the world and depicted how people lived and did things in their daily lives.
Smyth said the same film would be shown all over the world on Earth Day, April 22.
“With the screening of the film we hope to raise awareness of PNG’s place in the global community,” she said.
She said it was a wonderful opportunity to be part of and to connect people all over the world on the same day.
“The United Nations in PNG and the PNG World Heritage Secretariat have partnered to stage this free public screening
and we encourage all members of the general public and the media to attend.”
